Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the charts, such as the age distribution and the popularity of book categories. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. You mention the total number of loans fluctuated between 16,000 and 21,000, but you fail to describe the trend over the decade (e.g., the peak in 2009 or the decline toward 2016). Additionally, the data reporting is inconsistent; for instance, you mention 'other 2%' at the end without explaining what it refers to. To improve, ensure you provide a more comprehensive overview of the trends and ensure all data points are clearly linked to their categories.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inaccurate. For example, 'in other' and 'there presented' are used incorrectly to transition between ideas. The progression of information is occasionally disjointed, particularly in the final paragraph where the list of percentages lacks clear linking words to connect them to the categories. Improving the variety and accuracy of your transition signals (e.g., 'furthermore', 'in contrast', 'consequently') would significantly enhance the flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate to convey the basic meaning, but it is quite limited and repetitive. You rely on basic verbs like 'were' and 'accounted' throughout the text. There are also errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'made up of a the largest proportion' and 'children were borrowed'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary related to data description, such as 'constituted', 'accounted for', 'experienced a fluctuation', or 'represented the majority'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with article usage ('a age of library', 'a most popular'), subject-verb agreement ('Total number of loans was fluctuated'), and sentence structure ('51% were adults which aged 18-64'). While you attempt some complex structures, they are often faulty. You should focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically ensuring correct tense usage and avoiding unnecessary words. Practising the difference between active and passive voice will also help you describe the charts more accurately.
