Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have successfully identified the main features of the three charts provided. You included data points for the age demographics, loan categories, and the trend over time. However, the response lacks a clear overview or summary statement that synthesizes the information. While you mention the 'largest' and 'second highest' groups, you could improve by making more direct comparisons between the charts, such as noting that fiction books dominate the loans, which aligns with the high adult demographic. Ensure you label units (e.g., percentages or thousands) clearly to avoid ambiguity, as some figures like '51' or '22' lack context regarding whether they represent percentages or raw numbers.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the different charts. You use some cohesive devices like 'At first,' 'On the other hand,' and 'To sum up' to transition between ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally weak. For example, the transition between the age groups and the loan categories is abrupt. Improving the use of linking words to show relationships between the data sets would enhance the overall flow. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different data sources.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey the main points clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'demographics,' 'fiction,' and 'fluctuation.' However, there is a reliance on basic phrasing (e.g., 'the largest one,' 'sharing roughly similar share'). To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary to describe trends and proportions, such as 'constitute,' 'account for,' 'predominate,' or 'marginal.' There are also minor issues with word choice, such as 'the charts depicts' (should be 'depict') and 'total number of loans shown fluctuation' (should be 'showed fluctuations').
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('charts depicts,' 'adults ranges,' 'books also shares') and missing articles ('in the table of total loans,' 'from 2012, the number slightly fall'). These errors are frequent but do not significantly impede communication. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic agreement and tense consistency, especially when describing past data trends.
