Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response covers all three charts provided in the prompt. You successfully identified the main features, such as the age distribution of members, the popularity of media genres, and the upward trend in library loans over time. However, the analysis could be improved by making more direct comparisons between the data sets. For example, you mention the low membership of young adults and correlate it to the low loan percentage, which is an excellent analytical step. To reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are clearly linked to the specific charts and avoid minor inaccuracies, such as stating 'Children's fiction and Adult fiction' are 38% combined when the chart may show them as distinct categories.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction and separate paragraphs for each chart. The progression of ideas is easy to follow. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'It is seen that' and 'This included', to link your points. However, the reliance on 'It is seen that' as a repetitive sentence starter makes the flow feel somewhat mechanical. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and transition phrases, such as 'In contrast,' 'Furthermore,' or 'Regarding the data for,' to create a more sophisticated and natural flow between your sentences and paragraphs.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'accessible,' 'genres,' 'media,' and 'correlates.' The language is generally accurate and appropriate for a report. However, there are some repetitive phrases and minor inaccuracies, such as 'how many of each ages are present' (should be 'age groups') and 'memberships owned' (memberships are held, not owned). To achieve a higher band, aim to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and avoid repeating the same sentence structures and basic descriptors throughout the response.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. Most of your sentences are clear and easy to understand. There are some minor grammatical slips, such as 'how old the the library members are' (repetition of 'the') and 'Young adults category has one the lowest loan percentage' (missing 'of' and 'the'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures, such as using relative clauses or passive voice more effectively, would help elevate your score.
