Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all three charts provided in the prompt, which is a positive step. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. While you identify the maximum and minimum age groups, the description of the loan categories lacks precision; for instance, stating that children's fiction and adult fiction 'remain the same' is confusing, as the data shows they are equal at 38%, not that they have changed over time. Furthermore, the final paragraph regarding the trend over ten years is vague. To improve, ensure you provide specific data points to support your observations and avoid generalising trends without referencing the actual figures provided in the charts.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'By observing the given data' or 'While comparing the table'. The transition between the different charts is abrupt, and the logical flow within paragraphs could be improved by using more varied linking words. Referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult to determine exactly which data point is being discussed. Increasing the variety of cohesive devices and ensuring they are used naturally will help improve the flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are several instances of unnatural phrasing and word choice errors. For example, 'aged 18 to 64 were at in the maximum' and 'total loans budget for children's DVDs were very less' are grammatically and lexically imprecise. You rely on basic descriptors like 'maximum', 'minimum', and 'very less'. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more precise academic vocabulary, such as 'accounted for', 'constituted', 'a significant proportion', or 'marginal', and work on collocations to ensure your sentences sound more natural and professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the adults... were at in the maximum'), incorrect preposition usage, and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'total number of loans were far surpasses to the other years'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around periods. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement will yield significant improvements.
