Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response covers all three charts provided, identifying key features such as the dominance of fiction loans and the age demographic of library members. However, the reporting of data is sometimes imprecise; for instance, stating 'over 50 members' for the 18-64 age group is a vague interpretation of a chart that likely shows thousands. While the main features are selected, the comparison between categories could be more analytical. The overview is present but could be more effectively integrated to highlight the most significant trends rather than just listing aspects. Overall, the response addresses the requirements but lacks the precision expected for a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each focusing on a specific chart or data set. The progression of ideas is generally clear, moving from an overview to specific details and then to the longitudinal trend. Cohesive devices such as 'However' and 'Overall' are used to link ideas, though some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the information is presented in a way that is easy to follow. To improve, the student should focus on using a wider variety of linking words to connect sentences more fluidly within paragraphs.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to describe the data clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'illustrate', 'preferred', and 'demographic' (implied). However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'The ages of library members is highly that of adults', which is awkward phrasing. The repetition of 'loans' and 'number of' suggests a limited range. To reach a higher band, the student should incorporate more precise synonyms and collocations related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'accounted for', or 'constituted'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'The graphs illustrate information about a public library in the year of 2016' (unnecessary 'the'), 'Most of the loans in 2016 are due children' (incorrect preposition), and 'The ages of library members is highly that of adults' (subject-verb agreement and word order issues). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. More attention to subject-verb agreement and correct preposition usage would significantly improve the accuracy of the writing.
