IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The charts below give information about a public library in a town called Little Chalfont.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

 

Student answer (Band 7.0)

The pie chart, bar graph and the tabular data represents a public library in a city known as Little Chalfont for the year 2016.

Overall, the majority of the library members are adults and the second highest are the children. The maximum loans are taken for the categories children's and adult fiction. Despite the very low number of loans taken in the beginning the numbers increased gradually over the years.

The highest proportion i.e., 51% of library participants are adults between 18-64 years. 22% of the participants were children. Low loans included categories of children's DVDs (1%), young adults and adult audio books (2%). Nearly 38% of loans carried out for children's and adult fictions.

In 2007 about 16,000 loaned the library's belongings. Later the numbers started increasing over the period i.e., between 2010 to 2012 and 2014, 2015 more than 20,000. There was a slight drop in 2013 to nearly 19,000. And in 2016 there was a significant increase to approximately 23,000.

You also repeat the word 'participants' and 'loans' frequently. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more varied synonyms and precise collocations related to data reporting, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', or 'accounted for'.
