Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses the task by summarizing the main features of the charts. You successfully identified the upward trend in total loans and highlighted key data points from the table, such as the popularity of fiction categories. However, the analysis is somewhat descriptive and lacks a clear overview or synthesis of the data. To reach a higher band, ensure you group information more logically rather than listing figures. Additionally, avoid including personal opinions (e.g., 'From my perspective'), as Task 1 requires an objective report of the provided data. The comparison between the categories is present but could be more analytical to better highlight the significant differences.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. There is a logical progression from the membership data to the loan categories and finally the trend over time. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'In 2016', 'Table has', 'Graph shows'). The transition between sentences could be smoother to improve the flow. While the paragraphing is functional, the internal structure of the paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect ideas more effectively rather than relying on simple sentence structures.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information, such as 'gradually increased', 'categories', and 'membership'. However, there are several spelling errors (e.g., 'childerns', 'thier', 'intreseted', 'minimun') and some awkward phrasing, such as 'occupied by 22% childerns'. The use of 'percentile' is incorrect in this context; 'percentage' or 'proportion' would be more accurate. To improve, focus on using more precise terminology for describing trends and proportions, and ensure you proofread your work to eliminate basic spelling mistakes that distract from your otherwise clear communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'This chart illustrate', 'sections gets') and article usage (e.g., 'membership of library'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points, they are noticeable and occur throughout the text. To improve, focus on consistent verb tense usage—especially when describing past data—and ensure that pluralization and articles are used correctly. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures while maintaining accuracy will help elevate your score in this criterion.
