Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers the main features of the charts, including the total loan trends and the breakdown of library members and book categories. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. For instance, the data for book categories is presented as a list of percentages without sufficient comparison or grouping of the most significant trends. While the overall trend is identified, the connection between the different charts could be more integrated. The inclusion of specific figures is accurate, but the report would benefit from a more analytical approach to the data rather than just listing the statistics provided in the charts.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs focusing on different aspects of the data. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Overall', 'While', and 'however', though some transitions feel a bit mechanical. The progression of ideas is generally clear, moving from the general trend to specific categories and then to the chronological data. To improve, ensure that the relationship between sentences is smoother and that referencing (e.g., 'other category') is more precise to avoid ambiguity.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing for the description of trends and data points. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and phrasing, such as 'rest occupied 12%' and 'tends showed slight increased'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the meaning, it lacks the flexibility and precision required for a higher band. Using more varied verbs to describe trends (e.g., 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'remained steady') would enhance the quality of the report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('The charts... depicts') and incorrect article usage ('the books loaned by library'). Additionally, there are punctuation and phrasing errors, such as the use of brackets for percentages and the awkward phrasing 'tends showed slight increased'. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article usage would be beneficial.
