Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The response covers all parts of the task, providing a clear overview and selecting key features from the charts. You successfully identified the main trends in library membership and loan categories, and made relevant comparisons between the years. The data is accurately reported, and the inclusion of specific percentages and figures supports your points well. To reach a higher band, ensure that the overview is even more integrated; for instance, you could explicitly link the growth in total loans to the specific categories that dominated the figures. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets the requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'whereas', 'in contrast', and 'furthermore' to link ideas effectively. The progression of information is smooth, moving from membership demographics to loan categories and finally to the historical trend of total loans. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different data sets. While the flow is generally good, ensure that transitions between sentences remain varied to avoid a slightly mechanical feel in some sections. Overall, the structure is clear and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'contributed', and 'fluctuations' correctly. There is an attempt to use less common vocabulary, which is generally successful. However, there are minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'children category' (should be 'the children's category') and 'recorded just 1% of the total loan' (should be 'loans'). To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring pluralization is consistent when referring to data categories. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly throughout the report.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. You show good control over basic grammar, and your meaning is consistently clear. There are some minor grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('contributed highest proportion' should be 'contributed the highest proportion') and slight issues with preposition usage. However, these errors do not impede communication. To achieve a higher band, try to incorporate a wider variety of complex sentence structures, such as using relative clauses or passive voice more consistently to describe the data. Overall, the grammatical control is solid and supports the clarity of your writing.
