Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all three charts provided. You successfully identify the main features, such as the dominant loan categories and the primary age group of library members. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical and lacks depth in making comparisons. For instance, while you mention the percentages for loan categories, you do not explicitly compare them to the 'other' sectors effectively. Additionally, there is a slight inconsistency in the summary: you mention 'children's non-fiction' in the conclusion, but the body paragraph refers to 'children's fiction'. Ensuring data accuracy is vital for a higher band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each focusing on a specific chart. You use some cohesive devices like 'Moreover', 'In contrast', and 'Overall' to signal transitions. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally disjointed, and some referencing is unclear, such as 'minimal figures were observed for other sector' without specifying which sector. The use of cohesive devices is sometimes repetitive or slightly mechanical. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence clearly relates to the previous one would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'dominant', 'fluctuation', and 'upward trend'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'total loans category' instead of 'categories of loans' and 'other sector' instead of 'other sectors'. There are also minor errors in pluralisation, such as 'Adult were' instead of 'Adults were'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the meaning, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt to use complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('The chart illustrate', 'The figure was observed slight fluctuation') and article usage. Punctuation is generally functional, but some sentences are slightly awkward in their construction. To improve, focus on ensuring that verbs agree with their subjects and that sentence structures are grammatically sound. The errors present do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to limit the score.
