Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response covers all three charts provided in the prompt, identifying key features such as the dominant age group (18-64) and the highest loan category (children's fiction). However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical and lacks a cohesive overview that synthesizes the data effectively. The description of the bar chart trends is slightly confusing due to inaccurate dates (e.g., mentioning 2017 when the chart shows 2007) and some imprecise reporting of figures. While the main features are selected, the comparison between categories could be more analytical rather than just listing percentages.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often repetitive or mechanical (e.g., 'The last, the least', 'The bar chart shows'). There is a lack of sophisticated linking words to connect ideas within and between sentences. The progression of information is generally logical, but the transition between the description of the pie chart and the bar chart is abrupt. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult to track which data point is being discussed.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite basic. There is frequent repetition of words like 'proportion', 'accounted for', and 'loans'. Some word choices are slightly unnatural, such as 'The children was the 22% portion' or 'borrowed loans'. While the meaning is generally clear, the student struggles to use a wider range of vocabulary to describe trends or proportions with precision. There is little evidence of less common lexical items or idiomatic collocations appropriate for an Academic Task 1 report.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('The children was', 'the loan was... increased') and article usage. Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence structure is often fragmented or awkward. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable and detract from the overall fluency of the writing. More attention to verb tenses and pluralization is needed.
