Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully identified the main features of the charts and provided a clear overview. You included data from all three sources—the pie chart, bar graph, and table—and made relevant comparisons, such as noting the popularity of fiction categories. To reach a higher band, ensure you avoid minor inaccuracies; for example, you mentioned the trend becomes 'stagnant' in later years, but the bar graph shows a peak in 2016, which is a specific point rather than a period of stagnation. Additionally, ensure all data points are clearly linked to the specific years or categories provided in the prompt to avoid ambiguity.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The response is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'furthermore', 'whereas', and 'subsequently' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by mechanical phrasing, and some transitions feel slightly repetitive. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the overview from the detailed analysis. To improve, focus on varying your cohesive devices and ensuring that the progression of ideas between sentences is smoother, particularly when transitioning between the different types of data presented in the charts.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'stagnant', and 'category' correctly. There are some minor issues with word choice and punctuation, such as the use of brackets for 'increasing}' and inconsistent spacing around percentages. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey the meaning clearly, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for higher bands. Incorporating more precise collocations related to data trends—such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'accounted for'—would enhance your lexical score significantly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'majority of the library members are' (should be 'the majority') and 'the lowest being young adults' (which lacks a clear verb). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas and periods. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensure that your complex sentences are punctuated correctly. Reducing these minor errors will help your writing appear more controlled and professional.
