IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The charts below give information about a public library in a town called Little Chalfont.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

 

Student answer (Band 6.5)

First is a pie chart which describes the share of various age groups participation in library. According to which, 22 percentage are children aged below 13, 12 percentage, which is also the lowest comprises adults over 65, 15 percentage of the people are young adults aged between 13 to 17 and finally the largest share belongs to adults aged 18 to 64.

Second is a simple table chart which describes the proportion of rented books' categories. Majority belongs to Children's fiction and Adult fiction, then a substantial drop at Adult non-fiction, rest are nearly similar in distribution.

Final chart which is a bar graph, which relates the number of loans in a time span of 10 years between 2007 and 2016. It shows a stable rate of loans averaging around 18,000 over the period. Although during initial years the number was significantly less around 15,000, increasing later within following years.

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely heavily on basic terms like 'share', 'comprises', and 'relates'. There are also some awkward phrasings, such as 'table chart' (which is redundant) and 'share of various age groups participation'. To improve, incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'constitutes', 'fluctuated', or 'remained consistent'. Additionally, ensure your word choices are contextually accurate to avoid minor errors that slightly hinder the professional tone of the report.

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures.
