Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features of the charts. You successfully highlight the key demographic data (Adults at 51%) and the trends in the bar graph. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical and lacks a clear, cohesive summary of the most significant trends. For instance, the comparison between fiction and non-fiction items is presented as a list of figures rather than a synthesis of the data. To improve, ensure that you group information logically to highlight the most important comparisons rather than just listing data points. The overview is present but could be more clearly defined to better reflect the overall trends.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes awkward or mechanical, such as 'The meager was cover by' or 'Lucidly, 2010-2012'. These transitions do not always flow naturally. While there is a logical progression from the pie charts to the bar graph, the internal cohesion within paragraphs is occasionally disrupted by grammatical errors and imprecise referencing. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'in contrast', 'furthermore') would help to create a smoother, more professional flow throughout the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'surpasses', 'gradually', and 'demographic' (implied). However, there are several instances of inaccurate word choice and awkward phrasing, such as 'The meager was cover by' and 'maximum loan area'. These errors occasionally impede the clarity of the message. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise terminology for describing data, such as 'accounted for', 'constituted', or 'fluctuated'. Additionally, ensure that you use nouns and verbs correctly to avoid confusion, as seen in the phrasing 'the number about loan bearing'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that affect readability. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('The charts illustrates', 'the tables indicates') and incorrect preposition usage ('represented maximum presented at Adults'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods. While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors prevent the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring consistent punctuation will significantly improve the quality of your writing.
