IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The charts below give information about a public library in a town called Little Chalfont.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

 

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The charts given below illustrates the age distribution of members at little Chalfont library in 2016, the percentage of loans by category in the same year, and the total number of loans between 2007 and 2016.

Overall, adults aged 18-64 made up the highest percentage of members, while fiction books were the most frequently borrowed items. In addition, the total number of loans showed an overall upward trend over the

ten-year period.

Looking first at membership, adults aged 18-64 accounted for 51% of all members. Children were the second largest group at 22%, followed by young adults 13-17 with 15%. People aged 65 and over accounted the smallest share at 12%.

Regarding loans, children's fiction and adult fiction were equally popular, each making up 38% of total borrowing. Adult non-fiction accounted 13%, while children non-fiction represented 6%. The remaining categories were borrowed far less frequently, with young adults and adult's audio books at 2% each. and children DVDs at 1%. Finally total loans increased from around 16000 in 2007 to just over 20000 in 2016.
