Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have successfully identified the main features of the charts, including the membership demographics, the breakdown of loans by category, and the overall trend over time. You provided relevant data points to support your descriptions. However, the response lacks a clear, cohesive overview that synthesizes the information effectively. While you mention the highest and lowest categories, the comparison between the different charts could be more explicit. To reach a higher band, ensure that the 'overview' paragraph highlights the most significant trends or contrasts across all three charts rather than just listing facts. The data is accurate, but the analytical depth is somewhat limited.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'while', 'and', and 'finally' to connect ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the transition between the different charts could be smoother. For example, the final paragraph starts with 'Finally', which feels slightly disconnected from the previous analysis of categories. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through the data presentation.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have used a sufficient range of vocabulary to describe the data, such as 'approximately', 'steadily', and 'categories'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and phrasing, such as 'total number of loans from 2007 which was approximately 16,000 rose to 22,000'. The term 'members' is used repeatedly where 'membership' or 'proportion' might be more precise. To improve, focus on using more varied collocations related to data description, such as 'accounted for', 'witnessed a rise', or 'represented the largest share'. The current vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('The charts provides', 'adult age 18-64 make up', 'total member') and minor punctuation errors. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, pay closer attention to pluralization and subject-verb agreement. Additionally, try to incorporate more complex sentence structures, such as using relative clauses or participial phrases, to describe the data more fluidly. Proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy will significantly enhance your score.
