Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all parts of the task by summarizing the library membership, loan categories, and trends over time. Key features are identified, such as the dominance of adult members and the popularity of fiction. However, there are some inaccuracies in data reporting; for instance, you state that adults aged 13-17 were the largest group in the introduction, but later correctly identify adults 18-64 as the largest. Additionally, the description of the loan trends is slightly confusing, as the data labels in the prompt are misinterpreted in your text. A more precise selection of data points would improve the clarity of the summary.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, body paragraphs for specific data, and a concluding trend summary. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Regarding', and 'In addition' are used to guide the reader. However, the progression of ideas is occasionally hindered by minor errors in referencing and logical flow, such as the contradictory statements regarding age groups in the first two paragraphs. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but the internal cohesion within the second paragraph is slightly mechanical.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'accounting for', 'proportion', and 'represented'. There are some instances of awkward phrasing or word choice, such as 'total number of rose' (missing the noun 'loans') and 'equal popular' (should be 'equally popular'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the main points, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band. Spelling is generally accurate, but the misuse of basic collocations occasionally impacts the professional tone of the report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, including missing articles ('at 22%'), subject-verb agreement issues ('total number of loans took'), and incorrect preposition usage. Some sentences are slightly disjointed due to these errors, such as 'the number of loans increased significantly, however experienced slight decline'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points, they occur frequently enough to limit the score. More attention to sentence construction and proofreading for missing words would be beneficial.
