The charts below give information about a public library in a town called Little Chalfont.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

 

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The given charts provide information about the proportion of library members in a town called Little Chalfont based on their age. The data also illustrates the total number of loans taken from 2007 to 2016 and provides a detailed insight into the proportion of loans taken in 2016 by their category.

Overall, adults between the ages of 18 and 64 are the majority of members at the library. The highest number of loans was taken in 2016, and a large part of them was attributed towards children's fiction and adult fiction.

At first glance at the pie chart, it is abundantly clear that 51% of the members of the library are adults, and the percentages of children, young adults aged 13 to 17 and adults of the age group 65 and over are 22%, 15% and 12%, respectively. In addition to this, the number of loans taken in 2007 was a little over 15,000. Moreover, the count of loans increased in 2008 and plateaued till 2009. By 2016, the number of loans had crossed the 20,000 mark.

Moving further, in the year 2016, 38% of loans were taken for children's fiction and adult fiction each. While the proportion of loans for both young adult books and adult audiobooks was 2%, it was 3 times that for children's non-fiction books. Next, adult non-fiction received 13% of the loans, while children's DVDs received just 1% of the loans.
