Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all three charts provided, identifying key features such as the dominant age group (18-64) and the highest loan category (adult fiction). However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical, relying on a list-like approach rather than synthesizing the data effectively. There are some inaccuracies in data reporting; for instance, the text mentions 'adult friction' instead of 'fiction', and the interpretation of the bar graph is slightly repetitive. To reach a higher band, you should focus on grouping related data points and highlighting significant trends or contrasts rather than listing every figure individually.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each addressing a specific chart. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat repetitive and occasionally mechanical (e.g., 'Similarly', 'However', 'Moreover'). The transition between the description of the age groups and the loan categories is abrupt. While the progression of ideas is generally clear, the referencing is sometimes weak, and the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and better referencing techniques to avoid repetitive sentence structures.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several noticeable errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'friction' instead of 'fiction', 'garnted' instead of 'granted', and 'yaear' instead of 'year'. These errors, while not impeding communication, demonstrate a lack of control over more specific terminology. To improve, you should focus on using more precise academic vocabulary related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'fluctuated', or 'accounted for', and ensure careful proofreading to eliminate basic spelling mistakes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include incorrect verb forms ('loan granted' vs 'loans granted'), missing articles, and subject-verb agreement errors (e.g., 'Children counted as second largest member'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas. While the meaning remains clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and subject-verb agreement would significantly improve the clarity and accuracy of your writing.
