The charts below give information about a public library in a town called Little Chalfont.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 7.0)
The charts give information about the members, types of loans and total number of loans at Little Chalfont Library.
Overall, adults aged 18–64 were the largest group of library members. Fiction was the most popular type of loan, while the total number of loans generally increased from 2007 to 2016.
In 2016, 51% of library members were adults aged 18–64, making them the largest group. Children accounted for 22%, while young adults aged 13–17 and people aged 65 and over represented 15% and 12% respectively. In terms of loans, children’s fiction and adult fiction were equally popular, at 38% each. Adult non-fiction made up 13%, while children’s non-fiction accounted for 6%. The other categories were much less popular, with children’s DVDs being the least borrowed at just 1%.
The total number of loans was about 15,500 in 2007 and rose to around 19,000 in 2008. It continued to increase and reached approximately 21,000 in 2011. After a small fall in 2012 and 2013, the number increased again, reaching about 21,500 in 2016, which was the highest figure shown.
