Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers all three charts, providing a clear overview and highlighting key features. However, there are significant inaccuracies in data interpretation. For instance, you state that 'more than 50% of the proportion was carried out by the youngsters' in the pie chart, but the chart shows adults at 51%. Furthermore, you claim 'children's fiction and adult fiction' accounted for 38% in the table, but the table lists these as separate categories (38% and 15% respectively). These misinterpretations of the data prevent the response from reaching a higher band. To improve, ensure you cross-reference your text with the provided visuals more carefully to ensure accuracy in reporting figures.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, with an introduction, overview, and body paragraphs focusing on specific charts. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'In contrast', and 'As per' are used to guide the reader. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes hindered by the inaccurate data reporting mentioned in the task achievement section. Additionally, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The use of referencing is generally clear, but the overall flow would benefit from more sophisticated linking between the different data sets to create a more cohesive summary rather than treating each chart as a separate, isolated entity.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing for clear communication of the main features. You use some topic-specific terms like 'proportion', 'categories', and 'initial year'. However, there is a reliance on repetitive phrasing, such as 'maximum loans' and 'total proportion'. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'loan groups' and 'the amount of loans was carried out'. To reach a higher band, you should aim for more precise terminology, such as 'the majority of members' instead of 'half of the proportion', and vary your verbs to describe trends more naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'the children was only 22%' (subject-verb agreement), 'the maximum usage of loans was taken by' (awkward passive construction), and 'suddenly fall in 2014' (incorrect tense/verb form). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but there are minor errors with capitalization and article usage. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensuring that verb tenses are consistent when describing historical data. Increasing the variety of complex structures while maintaining accuracy will help elevate your score.
