IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The charts below give information about a public library in a town called Little Chalfont.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

 

Student answer (Band 7.0)

The diagrams given provide information about the Little Chalfont Library including data on proportion of members from various age groups, total number of loans taken from 2007 to 2016 and the total number of loans taken by genre in 2016.

Overall, adults aged 18 to 64 are the majority of members at the library. The highest count of loans taken was in the year 2016 and a significant amount was dedicated to children's fiction as well as adult fiction.

It is abundantly clear from the pie chart that adults between the ages 18 and 64 account for 51% of the members followed by children at 22%. While young adults make up 15% of the total percentage, adults aged 65 and over account for just 12%. Next, in the year 2016, at 38%, a significant percentage of books borrowed were from the categories of children and adult fiction. Moreover, 13% of the books lent by the library were adult non-fiction while for children's non-fiction, the proportion was only 6%. For categories like children's DVDs, books for young adults and audiobooks for adults, the percentage was only 1 - 2%.

Moving further, the total number of loans has grown overall from a little over 15,000 in 2007 to somewhat higher than 20,000 in 2016. Although the count of loans plateaued from 2008 to 2009, it rose slightly in 2011. The number fell to a little lesser than 20,000 in 2013 only to steadily grow again upto 2016.
