Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

You have successfully identified the main features of the charts, including the age demographics, the trend in book loans over time, and the breakdown of book categories. However, the response lacks a clear overview or summary statement that synthesizes the data. While you have reported the figures, the comparison between the categories could be more analytical. For instance, you mention the percentages but do not explicitly contrast the dominance of fiction with the minimal interest in DVDs. To reach a higher band, ensure you provide a clear 'overview' paragraph that highlights the most significant trends or differences across all three charts.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. You use some cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Second', and 'Lastly' to structure your points. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally unclear (e.g., 'Second highest value is by childern'). The transition between the description of the pie charts and the line graph is abrupt. Improving the use of linking phrases to connect ideas within paragraphs would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information, such as 'illustrates', 'comprise', 'gradually', and 'declined'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'more older', 'quantity of loaned books were', and 'least category'. Additionally, there are minor spelling errors like 'childern' and 'yaers'. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensure that your vocabulary is used in the correct grammatical context. Expanding your range of synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' would also be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'quantity... were'), incorrect preposition usage, and punctuation errors (e.g., 'children"s'). Some sentences are slightly disjointed, such as 'Adults... comprise 51%... and is highest in the percentage.' While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to impact the clarity of your writing. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement will help improve your accuracy.
