Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of both charts, including the age distribution and the loan trends over time. You successfully identified the key trends, such as the growth in loans between 2007 and 2016 and the dominance of the 18-64 age group. However, the analysis of the bar chart is slightly underdeveloped. While you mention the overall increase, you could have provided more specific comparisons between the categories (e.g., comparing the popularity of adult books versus children's books). The data points are generally accurate, but ensure that all figures are clearly linked to the correct categories to avoid ambiguity.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into four paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. You use some cohesive devices such as 'whereas', 'moreover', and 'in addition', which assist in linking ideas. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the flow between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. The referencing is generally clear, though some sentences, such as the final one regarding fluctuations, lack a strong connection to the preceding data analysis. Improving the variety of linking words would enhance the overall cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'depicts', 'fluctuations', and 'recorded'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'the charts represents' (should be 'represent') and 'the greater number of loans were depicted for children and adults', which is slightly confusing given the data. You attempt to use specific terminology, but there is room for more precise collocations to describe trends and data points. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the message clearly, but lacks the sophistication required for a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement ('The charts represents') and prepositional errors ('loans by category taken from the yer 2007'). Additionally, there are minor issues with article usage and phrasing, such as 'over 65 age' instead of 'over 65 years of age'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic agreement and tense consistency would be beneficial.
