Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
You have successfully identified the main features of the charts, such as the age demographics and the trends in library loans. However, the response lacks a clear overview of the data as a whole. While you mention some figures, the analysis is somewhat fragmented and lacks a cohesive summary of the trends. For example, you state that 2011 had the highest loans, but you do not contrast this effectively with the overall trend. To improve, ensure you group information logically and provide a more comprehensive summary of the key features at the beginning of your report.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical. For instance, the transition between the age demographics and the loan categories is abrupt. There is a lack of linking words to connect ideas within and between sentences, which makes the flow feel somewhat disjointed. To improve, try using a wider range of cohesive devices such as 'furthermore', 'in contrast', or 'consequently' to better connect your points and improve the logical progression of your argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. You rely on repetitive phrasing, such as 'highest' and 'lowest', and some word choices are slightly unnatural, such as 'presented with the highest category'. There are also minor errors in terminology, such as 'moderate trend' when describing a figure. To improve, try to incorporate more varied vocabulary to describe trends and proportions, such as 'peaked', 'remained stable', or 'a significant proportion'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. For example, 'the lowest loans taken in 2007' is a sentence fragment, and 'which 20.000' is grammatically incorrect. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of decimals and commas. To improve, focus on ensuring that every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and pay closer attention to article usage and verb tense consistency throughout your writing.
