IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The charts below give information about a public library in a town called Little Chalfont.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

 

Student answer (Band 7.0)

The charts illustrate data of a public library in Little Chalfont about its member's age distribution in 2016, seven loan types in the same year and total number of loans between 2007 and 2016.

Overall, adults of 18-64 accounted for the largest library membership in 2016 whereas adults aged 65 and over marked the lowest. The highest proportion of borrowing were children's and adult fiction but children's DVDs had the lowest loan percentage. Moreover, the total number of loans experienced relatively steady growth in the given time period although it faced a minor decrease in 2013.

Adults aged from 18 to 64 were the largest group of library members accounting for 51%. The second largest in the group were the children. The other two groups shared small proportions in the library membership with young adults aged 13-17 marking 15% and adults aged 65 and over accounting for only 12%, the lowest in this category in 2016.

In terms of total borrowing, 38% accounted for children's and adult fiction, the highest in this category whereas the least proportion of loans were for children DVDs which was only 1%. Adult non-fiction held 13% of loans but young adults and adult audio books accounted for 2% in 2016.

Finally, the total number of loans peaked at approximately 22,500 in 2016 which was only 16,000 in 2007. Throughout the given time period, the total number had a steady increase but had a minor fall in 2013 at around 19,000 before hovering around at 22,500 in the final years.
