Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers all parts of the task by summarizing the library membership and loan data. You successfully identified the main features, such as the dominance of adult members and the peak in total loans by 2016. However, the analysis of the loan categories is slightly confusing; for instance, stating that 'children's fiction and adult fiction' account for 38% combined is a good observation, but the subsequent breakdown of percentages is difficult to follow and lacks clarity regarding the specific data points. To improve, ensure that comparisons are more precise and that the data is grouped logically to highlight the most significant trends rather than listing every figure.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'On the other hand', and 'in contrast', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'continue with older adults'. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the second body paragraph where the list of percentages becomes repetitive and difficult to track. Improving the flow between sentences and using a wider variety of linking phrases would enhance the overall coherence of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing for clear communication of the data. You used some relevant terms like 'utilized', 'fluctuations', and 'constituting'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'total counted loans' instead of 'total number of loans' and 'the least proportion of loans utilized on' which is grammatically awkward. There is also some repetition of the word 'least'. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensuring that your collocations sound natural in the context of describing statistical data.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that persist throughout the text. Examples include 'the older people used least' (missing 'the' or 'it'), 'and and teenagers' (repetition), and 'the least at 1% individuals took loans' (awkward phrasing). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Increasing the frequency of error-free complex sentences will help you achieve a higher score in this criterion.
