Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the charts, including the age demographics and the trend in library loans. However, the summary of the data is somewhat superficial. While you identify the highest and lowest age groups, the description of the line graph is repetitive and lacks precision in reporting specific data points. For instance, phrases like 'a bit more than 20,000' are vague. To reach a higher band, you should focus on selecting key data points (e.g., the peak in 2012 or the starting point in 2007) and making more direct comparisons between the categories provided in the prompt, rather than just listing them.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. The use of cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'Moreover', and 'respectively' helps the flow of information. However, the transition between the overview and the body paragraphs is slightly mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, though the connection between the pie chart and the table could be more fluid. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow, meeting the requirements for a band 6.5 or 7.0 in terms of structure.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely on basic descriptors like 'highest', 'second', and 'low'. There is an attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary such as 'genres' and 'increment', but the phrasing is sometimes awkward, such as 'low in figure'. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated synonyms for trends and data comparison, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'accounted for'. The current range is sufficient to communicate the main points but does not demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'the figure for it showed ups and down' (should be 'ups and downs') and 'almost same as' (missing 'the'). Additionally, there are minor punctuation and article errors throughout the text. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles would significantly enhance the accuracy of your writing.
