Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the task by summarizing the three charts provided. You have successfully identified the main features, such as the dominant age group (18-64) and the loan distribution. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical and lacks a cohesive overview that synthesizes the data. For instance, the 'Overall' statements are repetitive and grammatically weak. To improve, ensure your overview highlights the most significant trends across all charts rather than just listing facts. While you have included data points, the comparison between categories could be more analytical, focusing on the relationship between membership demographics and loan preferences.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'After that' and 'The table depicts' are functional but lack variety. Additionally, the transition between the overview and the body paragraphs is abrupt. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'the largest members of library was 18-64', where the subject-verb agreement and phrasing hinder the flow. Improving the use of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'in contrast', 'furthermore') would enhance the logical progression of your ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision required for higher bands. You rely on simple descriptors like 'highest' and 'same percentage'. There are also some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'total loans taken by library for different category' and 'proportions respectively'. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to data description, such as 'predominant', 'accounted for', 'fluctuated', or 'a significant proportion'. Spelling is generally accurate, but the lack of capitalization for proper nouns like 'Little Chalfont' is a noticeable error.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('The charts illustrates', 'the largest members... was'), incorrect article usage ('the library' vs 'a library'), and awkward phrasing ('age of 18-64 are the one who are mostly'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but the sentence structure in the final paragraph is fragmented. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that your complex sentences are constructed accurately without losing the main point.
