IELTS Writing Task 1 question
The charts below give information about a public library in a town called Little Chalfont.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 7.0)
The pie chart and table illustrate the proportion of library members of four age groups, as well as percentage of book categories loaned in 2016, while the bar chart illustrates the total number of book loaned between 2007 and 2016.
Overall, the majority of library members were of age 18-64. In terms of types of book, the adult and children's fiction accounted for the maximum proportion of book loaned. The total number of books loaned was the lowest in 2007 and the highest in 2016, with a minor fluctuation in between.
The adults aged 18-64 made up over 50% of the library members, the second was childrens, which made up 22%. The percentage of the adults over 65, and the younger people of age 13-17 was 12 and 15 percent respectively.
In terms of book category, the children's fiction and adult fiction accounted for 38% each. The adult non-fiction was 13%. The remaining categories averaged around 3%.
The total number of books loaned was at just over 15,000 in 2007. After which, it increased to over 22,000 in 2011, but then fell below 20,000 in 2013. From this point, it increased gradually to reach over 23,000 by 2016.
