The charts below give information about a public library in a town called Little Chalfont.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

 

Student answer (Band 7.5)

The charts show the age distribution of members at Little Chalfont Library in 2016, the categories of loans made that year, and the total number of loans from 2007 to 2016.

Overall, adults aged 18–64 formed the largest group of members and borrowed the most items, mainly fiction. Meanwhile, total loans rose steadily over the period, despite a slight dip in 2013.

Regarding membership, adults aged 18–64 accounted for 51%, followed by children at 22%. Young adults made up 15%, while adults 65 and over were the smallest group, at 12%.

In terms of loans, adult fiction and children's fiction each represented 38% of the total, far ahead of adult non-fiction at 13%. Other categories, including young adults, children's non-fiction, audio books, and DVDs, made up only 1–6% combined.

Total loans increased from around 16,000 in 2007 to over 21,000 in 2011, dropped slightly in 2013, then rose again to peak at roughly 21,500 by 2016.
