Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all parts of the task by summarizing the library membership demographics, loan categories, and the trend over time. However, there are significant inconsistencies in the data reported. For example, you state that adults (18-64) comprise 51% of members, but later mention adults (18-54) are 51% and young adults (13-17) are 15%. Furthermore, the category percentages for loans are confusingly presented, and the claim that 'other categories could not get the interest of the members' is a subjective interpretation rather than a factual summary. To improve, ensure that data points are accurately transcribed and that comparisons are clearly linked to the provided charts.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the logical progression is hindered by repetitive information and some confusing transitions. For instance, the age groups are discussed in the first paragraph and then revisited in the second with slightly different labels, which creates confusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Regarding' and 'Finally', but they are sometimes used mechanically. To improve, ensure that each paragraph has a distinct focus and avoid repeating the same data points in different sections of the essay.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision. There are several spelling errors, such as 'catogries', 'mambers', 'flactuated', and 'memebers', which occur frequently. Additionally, the word choice is sometimes unnatural, such as 'least famous' to describe library loans, where 'least popular' would be more appropriate. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the general meaning, the recurring spelling mistakes and limited variety in descriptive language prevent a higher score. Focusing on accurate spelling and using more precise collocations will enhance your lexical range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'comprises of' (should be 'comprises'), 'child and adult fiction standout' (should be 'stand out'), and 'the total number of loans experienced up and down' (should be 'fluctuated'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around parentheses and commas. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader. You should work on subject-verb agreement and proofreading for basic grammatical slips.
