Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers all three charts, but the reporting of data is inconsistent and sometimes inaccurate. For example, you state that 51% of library members were adults aged 18-64, but the data is presented in a way that lacks clarity. Furthermore, the description of the bar chart trends is vague; you mention it 'fluctuated' but do not provide specific data points for the start and end years clearly. The summary of the main features is present, but the lack of precision in reporting figures and the confusion between 'members' and 'loans' hinders the overall task achievement. To improve, ensure you accurately transcribe the data provided in the prompt and distinguish clearly between the different categories.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or incorrect. For instance, the use of 'However' at the start of sentences is frequent and often inappropriate for the context (e.g., 'However, in the year 2007...'). The logical progression of ideas is sometimes disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the different charts. While there is an attempt to use linking words, they are not used with sufficient flexibility or accuracy to warrant a higher band. Improving the variety and correct placement of transition signals would significantly enhance the flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You rely on basic terms like 'got', 'took', and 'number'. There are also errors in word choice and form, such as 'loand' instead of 'loans', 'preceing' instead of 'preceding', and 'children's are took'. These errors occasionally impede communication. To reach a higher band, you need to use a wider range of vocabulary related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'accounted for', 'witnessed', or 'fluctuated'. Focus on using more precise terminology to describe trends and categories rather than repeating simple verbs.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that affect readability. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('children's are took'), tense usage ('people were take a loans'), and sentence structure (e.g., 'Which was around 51'). Many sentences are simple or contain structural errors that make them difficult to parse. While there is an attempt to use complex structures, they are often inaccurate. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, particularly subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and prepositions, before attempting more complex grammatical forms.
