Student answer (Band 5.0)

Little chalfont library publishes a chart of data that shows the numbers of persons involved in loans taken by them in the library. Mostly of them are adults which is of 51% of the 100% from the actual data. The data is from 2007 to 2016 and average loan is above 20000 mark. Total loans recoreded in year 2016 states that childern's fiction was about 38% where as non-fiction is 6% only that means people are more fond of fiction. We can see the adult fiction as well which is same percentage of the children and rest are delibretly low in percentage. Children's DVDs are least in the category with only 1% of the whole thing. I see 51 members are adults, 22 are children aged till 12, then comes young adults from 13 to 17 which are about 15 in number and rest 12 aee adults of age 65 and over.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to summarize the provided charts but fails to clearly distinguish between the two distinct datasets (membership demographics vs. loan categories). The overview is weak, and the reporting of data is often inaccurate or confusing. For example, stating '51 members are adults' misinterprets the percentage-based chart, and the description of the 2007-2016 trend is vague. The response lacks a clear structure, making it difficult for the reader to follow the main features of the library's data. To improve, you must clearly separate the two charts and ensure that figures are reported accurately without confusing percentages with raw numbers.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is written as a single paragraph, which hinders logical progression. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link ideas, and the transition between the membership data and the loan categories is abrupt. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as when you mention 'the whole thing' or 'rest are deliberately low'. To achieve a higher band, you should organize your report into clear paragraphs: one for the introduction and overview, and separate paragraphs for each chart. Use linking words like 'In contrast', 'Furthermore', and 'Regarding the membership' to guide the reader through your analysis.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'the whole thing' and 'deliberately low' are informal and imprecise for an Academic Task 1 report. There are also spelling errors such as 'recoreded', 'childern', and 'delibretly'. While you attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'fiction' and 'non-fiction', the range is insufficient to convey the data with precision. Focus on using more academic collocations and ensure accurate spelling of key terms to improve your lexical range and accuracy.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response relies heavily on simple sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'Mostly of them are adults which is of 51%', 'Total loans recoreded... states that', and 'rest 12 aee adults'. These errors occasionally make the meaning difficult to grasp. To improve, practice using complex sentence structures, such as relative clauses or subordinating conjunctions (e.g., 'While adult fiction accounted for 38%, non-fiction represented only 6%'). Pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and basic punctuation to ensure your writing is more accurate.
