Student answer (Band 5.0)

The pie chart illustrates the people of a different age group which has been working at a public library known as Little Chalfont.

Firstly, we can clearly seen that the bar graph shows the amount which was taken as a loan by library in various years.

Secondly, in 2016 the amount of a loan exclusively higher than the previous years. Moreover, the children's fiction and the Adult fiction categories is the highest among all the other one's. In addition, the adult non-fiction proportion is 13% and the children's non-fiction is about 6%, which is equal to other three categories. Furthermore, the proportion of the Adults worker's is about 51% in 2016. However, 22% proportion is covered by the Children's, also the Young adults contribution is 15% and the adults 65 and over 65 is about 12% which is quite lower as compared to all of them.

Overall, the contribution of the adults and the children is higher in both categories of loan and inthe librarymembers.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the task but fails to provide a clear, accurate summary of the data. The description of the charts is confusing; for instance, the text claims the bar graph shows loans 'in various years' when the data is clearly a single-year snapshot. Furthermore, the analysis of the pie chart is inaccurate, as the percentages provided do not align with the visual data (e.g., stating adult non-fiction is 13% when the chart shows a different figure). The overview is too brief and fails to highlight the most significant trends or comparisons effectively. To improve, you must ensure that your data extraction is precise and that you clearly distinguish between the two different charts provided.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay uses basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Moreover' to link ideas, but these are often used mechanically and do not always result in a logical flow. The paragraphing is weak; the response is essentially a single block of text with an extremely short concluding sentence. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow which chart or data point is being discussed. To improve, focus on grouping related information into distinct paragraphs—one for the bar chart and one for the pie chart—and ensure that each sentence logically follows the previous one.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. There are several instances of awkward word choice, such as 'people of a different age group which has been working at a public library' and 'the amount of a loan exclusively higher'. The use of 'one's' is grammatically incorrect in this context. While the response uses some topic-specific vocabulary like 'proportion' and 'categories', the overall range is insufficient to convey information with precision. You should aim to use more varied and accurate terminology to describe trends, such as 'accounted for', 'constituted', or 'a significant majority'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'we can clearly seen', 'the Adult fiction categories is', and 'the adults 65 and over 65 is'. The sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at complex sentences are often marred by errors in subject-verb agreement and preposition usage. Punctuation is also inconsistent. To reach a higher band, you need to focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring that subjects and verbs agree and that articles (a/an/the) are used correctly.
