Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have successfully identified the main features of the three charts, including the age demographics, loan categories, and the trend over time. You provided a clear overview and supported your points with specific data from the charts. However, the response lacks a degree of analytical depth. For instance, while you mention that fiction is the most desired category, you could have made more explicit comparisons between the categories to better highlight the contrast between popular and less popular items. Additionally, some data points, such as the specific percentages for non-fiction, were omitted. To reach a higher band, ensure that all key features are not just listed, but synthesized to provide a more comprehensive summary of the information provided.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is logically organized into paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs focusing on specific data sets. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'followed by' and 'in case of', to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions between sentences are abrupt. For example, the transition between the overview and the first body paragraph could be smoother. Additionally, there are some issues with punctuation, such as the comma splice in the second paragraph ('...pie chart, In table...'), which affects the overall readability. Improving the variety and accuracy of your linking words will help the ideas flow more naturally.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'fluctuates', and 'demographics'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and minor errors. For example, you use 'desired' to describe loan categories, whereas 'popular' or 'frequently borrowed' would be more appropriate in this context. You also use 'lowest share in pie chart' and 'highest loan was done', which sound slightly unnatural. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations related to data interpretation and ensure that your word choices are consistently appropriate for an academic report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Common issues include missing articles (e.g., 'In table', 'in pie chart'), subject-verb agreement errors (e.g., 'tables represents', 'fiction are'), and punctuation errors. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they are frequent enough to limit your score. To reach a higher band, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, particularly regarding articles and pluralization, and try to incorporate a wider variety of complex sentence structures with greater precision.
