Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all three charts provided, identifying key features such as the age distribution, loan categories, and the trend in total loans. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. For instance, while you mention the 18-64 age group, you do not effectively contrast it with the smaller groups to highlight the disparity. Additionally, the description of loan categories lacks a clear synthesis; simply listing percentages is less effective than grouping them to show the dominance of fiction over non-fiction. To reach a higher band, ensure you select the most significant data points and provide a more analytical comparison rather than just reporting the figures.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each focusing on a specific chart. There is a clear overall progression from the introduction to the body paragraphs and a summary. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. Phrases like 'In addition' and 'Regarding' are used frequently, which makes the flow feel a bit rigid. To improve, try to vary your linking words and use more sophisticated referencing (e.g., 'this figure,' 'the former,' 'the latter') to connect ideas more fluidly between sentences and paragraphs.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing for clear communication. You use some topic-specific terms like 'age distribution' and 'loan categories.' However, there are some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'the rose in the amount of the loan' (should be 'the rise') and 'accounted for 51% members' (should be '51% of members'). The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, relying on basic verbs like 'show' and 'accounted for.' Incorporating more precise synonyms for trends, such as 'fluctuated,' 'peaked,' or 'remained stable,' would enhance your lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that persist. For example, 'the children was 22%' (subject-verb agreement error), '12% the least number' (missing preposition/article), and 'the amount of loan in 2007 is 15,000' (tense inconsistency; should be past tense). These errors do not impede communication, but they do indicate a lack of consistent control over complex structures. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage when describing past data will help improve your accuracy.
