Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the charts, including age demographics and loan categories. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. For example, the description of the loan trend is vague, stating it was 'pretty stable' despite the data showing fluctuations. The report would benefit from more precise comparisons between the categories rather than just listing percentages. While all parts of the task are addressed, the lack of a clear overview or summary of the most significant trends limits the score. The data interpretation is generally accurate, but the connection between the different charts could be more effectively highlighted to provide a more cohesive summary.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'Turning back to' and 'On the contrary'. The progression of ideas is logical, moving from demographics to loan types and then to the timeline. However, the transition between the age demographics and the loan categories is abrupt. Improved use of linking phrases would help the ideas flow more smoothly. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs could be more refined to ensure a clearer logical progression throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. Phrases like 'comprised of over half of population' and 'took loans accounted for' are slightly awkward. There are also some errors in word choice, such as 'combinally' (which is not standard English) and 'equivalent to 16000' (when referring to a number of loans). While the student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'demographics' or 'non-fiction', the range is limited. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on more natural collocations and avoid non-standard word formations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. For instance, 'The adults age between 18 to 64 comprised of over half of population' contains errors in article usage and prepositional phrasing. Additionally, 'the number loans taken' is missing a preposition, and 'the loans were substantially increased accounted for' is grammatically incorrect. While the meaning is generally clear, the control over complex structures is inconsistent, and errors in basic grammar are noticeable throughout the text.
