Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers all three charts provided, identifying key trends and data points. You successfully highlight the age distribution, the popularity of loan categories, and the overall increase in loans over time. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical, and the reporting of data could be more precise. For example, stating 'adults of age 18-64 were accounted for the highest' is grammatically awkward and lacks the analytical depth required for a higher band. While you have selected the main features, the comparison between categories could be more integrated to show a clearer overview of the library's usage patterns.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often repetitive or mechanical, such as the frequent use of 'overall' and 'moreover'. Some transitions are abrupt, and the lack of proper punctuation—specifically missing spaces after commas and periods—makes the text feel disjointed. The logical progression is present, but the flow between sentences is hindered by these mechanical errors and a lack of varied linking words, which prevents the response from achieving a higher score in this criterion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'age distribution', 'represented', and 'considerably'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'most least was children's dvds' and 'gained popular demand'. Additionally, there are consistent spelling errors (e.g., 'loas', 'icreased'). While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of precision and the presence of these errors limit the score. To improve, focus on using more natural collocations and ensuring accurate spelling of key terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('adults... were accounted for', 'it raise again'), missing articles, and significant punctuation errors, such as failing to capitalise the start of sentences and omitting spaces after punctuation marks. These errors are noticeable throughout the text. While they do not completely impede communication, they occur with enough frequency to detract from the overall quality of the writing and indicate a lack of control over complex structures.
