Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response successfully identifies the main features of the three charts. You have provided a clear overview and selected relevant data points to support your summary. You correctly identified the age demographics, the most popular loan categories, and the overall upward trend in library loans. However, the analysis could be improved by making more direct comparisons between the data sets where possible, rather than listing them in isolation. The information is accurate, and all parts of the prompt are addressed, meeting the requirements for a Band 6.5 or 7.0 level of task coverage.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs focusing on specific charts. Cohesive devices such as 'Looking at', 'However', and 'followed by' are used to guide the reader. However, there are some mechanical issues with cohesion, such as the abrupt start to the third paragraph ('Looking at pie chart') and some minor issues with referencing. The flow is generally clear, but the transition between ideas could be smoother to reach a higher band. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different data sources.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information clearly, using terms like 'age bracket', 'categories', and 'period'. There are some spelling errors ('vistors', 'childen', 'youn', 'olderly', 'repenseted', 'increaded') and minor word choice issues ('labrary'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. To improve, you should focus on accuracy in spelling and using more precise collocations to describe trends, such as 'experienced a fluctuation' or 'accounted for the majority'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'just over have of library vistors was' (should be 'half' and 'were') and 'combined together accounted for' (redundant). Punctuation is inconsistent, particularly with capitalization after periods and within sentences. While you attempt complex structures, the frequency of errors in basic grammar and spelling prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and article usage.
