Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response effectively covers all parts of the task. You have successfully identified the main features of the three charts, including the membership demographics, the popularity of different book categories, and the trend in total loans over time. The comparisons made, such as noting that children's and adult fiction were equally popular at 38%, are accurate and well-supported by the data. The overview provides a clear summary of the main trends, which is essential for a high band score. No significant information was omitted, and the data is presented in a logical and professional manner.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The response is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific chart, which makes the information easy to follow. You have used a variety of cohesive devices effectively, such as 'Regarding', 'In terms of', and 'In addition', to link your sentences and paragraphs. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall structure is coherent. The information flows smoothly from the general overview to the specific details, demonstrating a high level of control over the structure of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You have used a sufficient range of vocabulary to describe the data accurately. Phrases like 'made up the largest proportion', 'accounted for the majority', and 'reaching its highest level' are well-chosen and appropriate for an academic report. While the vocabulary is accurate and functional, it could be slightly more sophisticated to reach the highest band. For example, instead of repeating 'proportion' or 'groups', you could vary your terminology further. However, the current range is more than adequate for the task and demonstrates a good command of topic-specific language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5
The response displays a good variety of complex sentence structures, such as the use of participial phrases ('making them the largest group') and subordinate clauses ('despite a slight decline in the middle of the period'). The grammar is highly accurate, with the majority of sentences being error-free. Punctuation is used correctly throughout, and there are no significant grammatical slips that impede communication. The control over tense and subject-verb agreement is consistent, reflecting a high level of grammatical competence.
