Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to cover all three charts, but it fails to provide a meaningful summary or synthesis of the data. Instead of selecting and reporting main features, the student provides a repetitive, list-like recitation of almost every figure provided in the charts. There is no attempt to make relevant comparisons, such as noting that adult fiction and children's fiction share the same percentage, or highlighting the overall upward trend in loans. The 'Conclusion' is merely a restatement of facts rather than an analytical summary. To improve, you must group data logically and highlight key trends or significant differences rather than listing every individual data point.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, which helps the reader navigate the information. However, the progression of ideas is mechanical and repetitive. Each paragraph starts with a similar, clunky phrase like 'According to the chart...' or 'Total number of loans...'. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link ideas; for example, the paragraph on loans is a series of simple sentences that read like a list. The use of referencing is also weak, as the text relies on repetitive sentence structures rather than varied transition words or pronouns to connect the information.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. The phrase 'amount of loan' is used repeatedly throughout the third paragraph, which is not the most natural collocation; 'number of loans' or 'loan figures' would be more appropriate. There is little evidence of a range of vocabulary beyond basic descriptive terms. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more precise terminology related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'accounted for', or 'constituted', and avoid repeating the same nouns and verbs in every sentence.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response relies almost exclusively on simple sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('the number of loans were shown', 'childrens were 22%') and incorrect punctuation. The use of 'childrens' as a plural is incorrect; it should be 'children'. Additionally, there are errors in tense and preposition usage. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of complex structures and the persistence of basic grammatical errors limit the score. You should focus on using a wider variety of sentence types and ensuring correct pluralization and verb agreement.
