Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the charts, but the analysis is somewhat superficial. While you identify the age groups and the loan trends, the comparisons are underdeveloped. For instance, you mention the 2007 and 2016 loan figures but fail to describe the trend between those years effectively. Additionally, the final paragraph regarding the 2016 category breakdown is disjointed and lacks a clear connection to the rest of the report. To improve, ensure you group data logically and provide a more comprehensive overview of the trends rather than just listing isolated figures.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the flow between ideas is often mechanical and repetitive. You rely heavily on basic transition words like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'And then'. Some sentences are poorly connected, such as the transition into the final paragraph about the 2016 category breakdown, which feels like an afterthought. The use of referencing is also weak; for example, 'In this there was a high percent' is vague. Improving the use of cohesive devices and ensuring a smoother logical progression between sentences would significantly enhance the readability of your report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision required for a higher band. You use repetitive phrasing, such as 'there was' and 'it included', which limits the sophistication of your writing. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'top ranked record' and 'ratio of different library members'. While your meaning is clear, you need to incorporate a wider range of vocabulary related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', or 'accounted for', to demonstrate a more flexible control of language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include incorrect verb tenses ('each members consisted'), subject-verb agreement errors ('there ages were'), and awkward phrasing ('the year of 2007 towards the 2016'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some run-on sentences. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to detract from the overall quality. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and refining your sentence structure will help you achieve a higher score.
