Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to cover the provided charts, but it fails to accurately interpret the data. For instance, the description of the age groups is confusing and inaccurate, as it describes the age of the users rather than the percentage of library members. Furthermore, the analysis of the loan trends is vague and lacks precision, failing to highlight key features such as the peak years or the overall downward trend. The report lacks a clear overview of the main trends, and the data points mentioned are often imprecise or incorrectly stated. To improve, focus on identifying the most significant changes and comparing the data categories clearly rather than listing individual years without context.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally misused, such as 'In the contrast' and 'Although, they had used'. The progression of ideas is hindered by the lack of clear logical links between the sentences. While there is an attempt to group information, the transitions between the different charts are abrupt. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through the data analysis.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, often relying on basic terms like 'examine', 'obtain', and 'acquire'. There are several instances of awkward word choice, such as 'the age of 22' when referring to a percentage, and 'the performance of loan'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the data with the necessary precision required for an Academic Task 1 report. To improve, incorporate more specific terminology related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', and 'accounted for', and ensure that the vocabulary used accurately reflects the information presented in the charts.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'the adults have the 51 age', and incorrect preposition usage, such as 'below than 15 age'. The sentence structures are predominantly simple, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in errors, such as the misuse of 'Although' at the beginning of a sentence without a dependent clause. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structures and proofreading for common errors like article usage and verb tense consistency.
