Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all three charts provided, identifying key trends and data points. You successfully highlighted the dominant age group (18-64) and the most popular loan categories. However, the report lacks precision in data reporting. For instance, you mention '51' for the age group without specifying that this represents a percentage, and 'children's factors' is an inaccurate description of the category 'Children's fiction'. To improve, ensure you clearly label units (percentages vs. raw numbers) and use accurate terminology from the charts. While the main features are present, the comparison between categories could be more analytical rather than just listing figures.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs focusing on specific charts. You use some cohesive devices like 'Moreover', 'however', and 'in contrast' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel forced. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the second paragraph where you list numbers without sufficient context. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through the data comparison.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'fluctuation', and 'category'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'children's factors' instead of 'children's fiction' and 'had the steadily growth' instead of 'showed steady growth'. There are also some minor errors in word formation and capitalization, such as 'Children'S'. To improve, focus on using precise terminology found in the prompt and ensure correct word forms. Expanding your repertoire of verbs to describe trends (e.g., 'witnessed', 'experienced', 'peaked') would also enhance your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'The charts below shows' (subject-verb agreement), 'was accounted for the highest by 51' (awkward passive construction), and 'had the steadily growth' (incorrect article/adverb usage). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas and periods. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Proofreading for basic sentence structure errors will help ensure that your complex sentences are accurate and do not impede the reader's understanding.
