IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The charts below give information about a public library in a town called Little Chalfont.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

 

Student answer (Band 7.0)

The charts and table show different information on age of members, total loans by book genre, and total number of loans in 2016.

Overall, most of the library members are adults and the most popular book genre is children's fiction. In 2016, the number of loans in the library is at its highest number since 2007.

The pie chart represents the age of members and it shows that more than half of the members are 18-64 years old, which makes them the highest number. In comparison, the library membership attracts fewer people over 65 years old which only makes up to 12% of the data population. The table depicts that 38% of loans consist of children's fiction which is the highest number of loans while the genre with the least number is adult audio books which takes up only 2% of the loans.

The total number of loans as illustrated in the bar chart reveals that by 2016, the library has the highest number of loans with over 20,000 showing a significant growth since 2007 with more than 5,000 more loans in a span of 9 years.
