Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all three charts provided. You have successfully identified the main features, such as the dominant age group (18-64) and the overall upward trend in loans. However, the analysis is somewhat descriptive rather than analytical. For instance, in the pie chart section, you list percentages without making sufficient comparisons between the categories. Furthermore, the description of the line chart is slightly inaccurate; you mention a 'significant rise with 4,000' and a 'slip' from 2012 to 2013, but the data points need to be interpreted more precisely to show the overall trend. To improve, focus on grouping data to highlight key trends and contrasts rather than listing figures sequentially.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each focusing on a specific chart. You use some cohesive devices like 'To begin with,' 'Moreover,' and 'Overall,' which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'Having said that,' which is not the most appropriate choice for introducing a new set of data. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear; for example, 'near double of it' is vague. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to their antecedents would enhance the flow and coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'marginal change,' 'static,' and 'significant rise.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'the charts illustrates' (subject-verb agreement error) and 'name by Little Chalfont Library' are unnatural. You also rely on repetitive phrasing when describing the data. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise vocabulary related to trends, such as 'fluctuated,' 'peaked,' or 'remained constant,' and ensure that your word forms are consistently accurate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Notable issues include subject-verb agreement ('The charts illustrates'), missing articles ('the information regarding the total loans'), and awkward phrasing ('the children is contributing to 22%'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma splices. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, specifically ensuring that subjects and verbs agree and that your sentence boundaries are clearly marked with appropriate punctuation.
