Student answer (Band 7.5)
The pie chart, table, and bar graph illustrate key data regarding members, borrowed item categories, and overall lending trends at Little Chalfont Library between 2007 and 2016.
Overall, adults aged 18 to 64 constituted the largest proportion of library members, while children's fiction and adult fiction were the most frequently borrowed categories. Additionally, total annual loans experienced an overall increase over the decade.
In 2016, adults aged 18–64 made up more than half of the membership at 51%, followed by children at 22%. Young adults (aged 13–17) and adults aged 65 and over represented smaller shares, accounting for 12% and 15% respectively. Regarding total loans by category in 2016, children's fiction and adult fiction dominated the borrowing, each taking up 38%. Adult non-fiction followed with 13%, whereas children's non-fiction stood at 6%. The remaining categories—children's DVDs, young adult items, and adult audiobooks—each accounted for 2% or less.
Looking at total loans from 2007 to 2016, borrowings started at roughly 15,000 in 2007. This figure rose sharply to around 19,000 in 2008 and continued a steady upward trend, peaking at over 21,000 loans by 2016.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response effectively addresses all parts of the task. You have successfully selected the main features from the pie chart, table, and bar graph, and provided clear comparisons. The overview is concise and highlights the most significant trends, such as the dominance of adult members and the steady increase in total loans. The data is accurately reported, and the inclusion of specific percentages and figures supports your points well. To reach a higher band, ensure that you consistently highlight the most striking differences or relationships between the data sets, rather than just listing figures, though your current approach is already very strong and analytical.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The response is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a distinct focus: the introduction and overview, the membership and category breakdown, and the longitudinal trend of total loans. You have used cohesive devices such as 'Additionally,' 'Regarding,' and 'Looking at' to guide the reader through the data smoothly. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the information flows logically from one point to the next. The structure is coherent throughout, and there is no evidence of mechanical or repetitive use of linking words.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey information with precision. Phrases like 'constituted the largest proportion,' 'dominated the borrowing,' and 'steady upward trend' are used accurately and appropriately for an academic report. The vocabulary is varied and allows for a natural flow of information. There are no significant errors in word choice or collocation. To improve further, you could incorporate more sophisticated synonyms for 'increase' or 'represented' to add even more variety, but the current range is already quite effective for this task.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5
The response displays a good variety of complex structures, such as the use of participial phrases ('followed by children at 22%') and subordinate clauses. The majority of your sentences are error-free, and your control over punctuation is excellent. The grammar is accurate, and there are no instances where errors impede communication. You have successfully combined simple and complex sentence forms to maintain interest and clarity. The writing is polished and demonstrates a high level of grammatical competence, which is consistent with a high band score.
