Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have successfully identified the main features of the charts, including the membership demographics, loan categories, and the trend over time. You provided clear comparisons, such as noting that children's and adult fiction were equally popular. However, the report could be improved by ensuring all data points are accurately represented; for instance, the table data regarding 'young-adult books' and 'adult audio books' at 2% is a specific detail that you captured well. To reach a higher band, ensure that your overview clearly synthesises the trends rather than just listing facts, and double-check the accuracy of your data interpretation against the provided visuals.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is logically organised into clear paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs focusing on specific data sets. The progression of ideas is generally smooth. You used some cohesive devices, such as 'In terms of', 'According to', and 'Finally', to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with sentence-level cohesion, such as the abrupt start of the final paragraph. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the flow of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information clearly, using terms like 'dominant group', 'proportion', 'fluctuations', and 'recorded'. There are some minor inaccuracies, such as 'was popular than' (should be 'was more popular than') and 'the figure reaching' (should be 'the figure reached'). While the vocabulary is adequate for the task, incorporating more precise academic collocations or synonyms for 'increased' and 'decreased' would demonstrate a more flexible range and help you achieve a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors that slightly distract from the writing, such as 'adults aged 18–64 has' (subject-verb agreement error: should be 'have') and 'the figure reaching' (fragmented verb phrase). Additionally, there are minor punctuation issues, such as missing spaces after periods. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading and a stronger grasp of subject-verb agreement and verb tense consistency to reach a higher band.
