Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The charts illustrate information about the age distribution of library members, the proportion of loans by book category, and the total number of loans made at a public library in Little Chalfont.
Overall, adults aged 18–64 constituted the largest proportion of library members, while fiction books accounted for the greatest share of loans. In addition, the total number of loans generally increased over the period shown, reaching its highest point in 2016.
While the children and adults aged between 18 to 64 were at 22% and 51% proportion, respectively, they accounted for 38% loans for Children's fiction and Adult fiction whereas adult non-fiction loans were 13%. Young adults between 13 to 17 years of age comprised 15% of library members, however, they accounted for 2% of the loan. Adults of 65 years and over were 12% in proportion. The lowest number of loans were taken by Children's non-fiction, Children's DVDs, and Adult audio books with the percentage of 6%, 1%, and 2%, respectively.
The number of Loans were the lowest in 2007 a little above 15000. The figure gradually increased and became stable just below 20000 in 2009. It again rose until 2011 and reached slightly above 20000 in 2012. The number dropped just below 20000 in 2013 and then continuously increased until 2016.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all three charts effectively. You have identified the main trends and provided relevant comparisons, such as contrasting the age distribution with loan categories. However, the third paragraph is slightly confusing; you attempt to link age groups to specific loan categories, but the data provided in the charts does not explicitly correlate these two sets of information in that way. It is important to report the data as presented without making assumptions about the relationship between age and specific book categories unless the chart clearly indicates it. Overall, the key features are highlighted well.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'while', 'in addition', and 'however' to link ideas. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the static data (age/categories) from the dynamic data (the trend over time). To reach a higher band, ensure that the transition between sentences is smoother; some sentences in the third paragraph feel like a list of statistics rather than a cohesive analysis of the data.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'constituted', 'accounted for', and 'proportion'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'the lowest number of loans were taken by', which is slightly awkward; it would be more natural to say 'the lowest number of loans were recorded for'. Additionally, 'the percentage of 6%' is redundant; you should simply say 'at 6%'. The vocabulary is generally adequate to convey the information clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'the number of Loans were' (should be 'was') and 'accounted for 2% of the loan' (should be 'loans'). You also have some issues with article usage and pluralization, such as 'the lowest number of loans were taken by Children's non-fiction'. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout the response. Increasing the variety of complex structures and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would improve your score.
